Self-Determination Resolution

About Us

History of RANE

On July 28, 2003 we presented a petition to the Director of the Division of Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Substance Abuse Services. A self-advocate was recently reintroduced to the community of his choice. This was the result of the petitioning an effort by our allies and RANE. We also participated and helped organize the Freedom March on September 17, 2003.
Our first project was writing a Self-Determination Resolution to urge the State to recognize self-determination as a principle to be adopted in North Carolina.
We stand very strongly on the importance of using People First language. This is a more polite and respectful way to address people with any type of disability. We politely, but assertively, help people to use People First language.
